Aum / Om / अहूँ

When we are born into this world, we cry out “Ogyaa!” and give birth to our strength of breath we will draw upon to the end of our days.

In the ancient Indian language of Sanskrit, the first character is [阿 \ A], the sound made when we first open our mouths. The last character [吽 \ N] is the sound when we close our mouths.

This phrase expresses the Beginning and End of existence.

In Buddhism, Aum can mean “seeking enlightenment when you are born into this world will lead to Nirvana”. Nirvana can be thought of as a world of eternal peace and comfort, where desire and attachment are gone, finally reached after much struggle.

The brush flowed well beyond the edge of the washi. From this word I could feel the great message of the cosmos overshadowing the reach of human knowledge.
